Pure wines from Luxembourg

April 2024

While Luxembourgish wines may not be as widespread as those from other wine-producing regions, they are increasingly recognized as hidden gems worth exploring.

In the enchanting valleys of the Moselle, Alzette and Sûre, Luxembourg offers a varied terroir ideal for viticulture. Due to the steep slopes and limestone soils, this is a perfect environment for grape varieties such as Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Auxerrois and Gewürztraminer.
Luxembourgish wines are known for their freshness, vibrant acidity, and fruity aromas, often with notes of green apples, peaches, citrus fruits, and flowers.

The deep-rooted heritage and craftsmanship of Luxembourg winemakers add to the prestige of their wines. Many vintners have perfected the art of winemaking for generations, with a deep appreciation for the terroir and grape varieties.

Another aspect that contributes to the image of Luxembourg wines is the growing focus on quality and sustainability. Many vintners have invested in modern viticulture techniques and sustainable farming practices to produce top-quality wines that can compete in international markets. These efforts strengthen the image of Luxembourg wines and attract the attention of consumers who value high-quality and environmentally friendly products.

The pearl of the Moselle

Where we thought we had found a nice nickname for Sorentberg as Pearl of the Moselle, it turns out that there is another Pearl.

Along the southern banks of the Moselle, bordering Germany, lies the town of Remich, the Pearl of the Moselle because of its beautiful location, historic charm, tourist attractions and rich historical
wine tradition.

The St. Martin winery, founded in 1919 by seven pioneers, plays an important role in this history. It is known for its high-quality sparkling wines, such as Crémant de Luxembourg, and stills of excellent quality, with a strong focus on craftsmanship, tradition, and innovation.

Pinot Gris Grand Premier Cru

2021 - Caves St. Martin

Tasting notes
Among Luxembourgers, Pinot Gris is nowadays considered the favorite gourmet wine. With its fresh and pleasant acidity, beautiful minerality and powerful aromas of apricot, passion fruit, grapefruit and hazelnut, this Pinot Gris is greatly appreciated.

Food Pairing
This wine goes perfectly with veal or fish in cream sauce.

Riesling Grand Premier Cru

2022 - Caves St. Martin

Tasting notes
Riesling is probably the best-known and most typical wine from the region. It is considered the king of Luxembourg's Moselle wines. The character of this wine is strongly influenced by the origin of the grape. The slightly higher acidity is offset by a wide range of aromas such as pear, apple, apricot and lemon. All this results in a beautifully fresh and complex wine.

Food Pairing
A perfect match with light meat, such as chicken or fish. Fish dishes include mussels or scallops. And if you really want to taste something from Luxembourgish cuisine, try this Riesling at "Friture de Moselle", a dish with various fried small fish from the Moselle.
